Philosophy Projects/Writing
Senior Project (in progress)
Developing a Deweyan pragmatist account of animal liberation, drawing on Wittgenstein, Cora Diamond, Marxist philosophy, and Aph and Syl Ko.
- Core Question: How are our moral standards shaped by our use of language, habits, and the systems we have created, and how does this impact the solutions to speciesism?
- Thesis: I argue that if morality is socially mediated and upheld by habits, then the words we use and their social connotations influence our moral conceptions. This then influences the creation of our systems, like capitalism, and means that investigating the problem of speciesism necessitates examining our habits, use of language, and intersecting moral problems and their root causes.
